Our client is a highly regarded, award-winning full service regional firm which is known for its focus on its people and values. They are innovative, forward-thinking and open-minded, being keen to support their people to be curious and try new ideas in order to deliver the best experience for their clients and colleagues.

The firm has continued to evolve its approach and combines smart technology with the personal touch as part of its client offering. The smart central Plymouth offices reflect its high standards of professionalism and aspiration.

Ranked in The Legal 500, Chambers UK and Chambers High Net Worth, this firm is proud of its strong regional reputation, with established and trusted links with commercial businesses and private individuals across the South West and beyond.

As part of the continuing success of the firm, they are seeking to recruit an experienced Senior Employment Lawyer or Partner to actively lead and support the growth of the team whilst managing a varied caseload of contentious and non-contentious matters.

About the role

Joining as a Senior Lawyer or Partner, you will be responsible for the leadership of the Employment team, which forms part of the Commercial department, the largest in the firm. Day to day, you will be working with one other experienced Employment Lawyer to deliver considered advice to your clients, with a caseload of respondent and claimant matters (representing approximately 60%/40% split). You will work to generate new client instructions for yourself and the team, which may include corporate support, HR advisory, document drafting, settlements (bulk or individual), collective redundancies, pre-litigation advice and tribunal work, spanning multiple sectors and a wide geographical reach. You will manage your own files with independence, and provide support to less experienced members of the team as they develop, where needed.

Championing the growth of your team, you will encourage cross-referrals from colleagues and actively engage with marketing and business development initiatives where possible. The firm encourages fresh ideas to develop and strengthen business relationships and welcomes proposals which you feel will help to extend and enhance your team’s profile and workstreams.

About you

As a motivated and experienced Senior Employment Lawyer or Partner, you will be seeking to progress in your career with a firm which is genuinely collegiate and supportive. You will have extensive UK-based post-qualified experience across a variety of employment law matters with the ability to independently manage a varied and complex caseload from the outset. With your experience, you are confident and comfortable with new and established clients, and have strong rapport and relationship building skills which enable you to develop lasting relationships. You pride yourself in listening to your clients and providing clear, commercially appropriate and relevant advice every time.

You will have gained experience of leading and managing team members, allocating work and providing quality supervision, being a good communicator with a positive approach to developing individuals in their technical skills and confidence. Equally, you have a positive approach to working collaboratively with other partners and teams to promote cross-referrals and delivery of exemplary client care.

An enthusiasm for business development will be important in this role in order to develop and grow the practice, gaining new client instructions and referrals. You understand how to generate new business opportunities for your team and the wider firm, promoting your profile and building up referrer networks.

You consider yourself to be a resilient and collegiate lawyer who enjoys delivering exceptional client service and encourage your team to do the same. You have developed a passion for working with a wide range of clients, providing appropriate, insightful and commercially relevant advice to meet with their specific needs and interests. You focus on keeping up to date with the latest legal developments in Employment law and work proactively to consider potential impact on your clients.

A range of attractive benefits are available for Senior Lawyer and Partners, which can be discussed further as part of the recruitment process. These may include:

  • 28 days holiday
