Retail Advisor (3542)

Ref: 3542

£26,000 - £28,000 DOE  |  Permanent, Full-Time, On-site  |  Exeter

Cathedral Appointments is recruiting on behalf of an independent specialist retailer serving customers across Devon and Cornwall. They are looking for a caring, practical and dependable Mobility Retail Advisor to join their Exeter team. This is a varied, customer-facing role combining needs-led advice, product demonstrations, showroom presentation, administration and practical product handling, helping people find equipment that genuinely supports their independence.

A Different Approach to Sales

This is not a commission-based business and there is no pressurised selling. Mobility equipment can have a significant effect on somebody's independence, safety and quality of life, so the priority is always to listen carefully, understand the individual's needs and recommend the most appropriate solution. The business grows by earning trust, delivering excellent outcomes and building lasting relationships, guided by values of honesty, empathy, innovation, integrity and trust.

The Role

You will support a diverse range of customers and their families, from people choosing their first mobility scooter to those exploring new equipment after a lifetime of disability, often in sensitive circumstances. You will work Tuesday to Saturday, 9:00am to 5:00pm. No previous mobility industry experience is needed. Full product training will be provided, with future scope to progress into a Product Specialist role.

Responsibilities for the Mobility Retail Advisor:

  • Welcome customers and create a friendly, professional showroom experience
  • Listen carefully to understand each customer's needs, lifestyle and priorities, then advise on and demonstrate the right equipment without using pressure-sales techniques
  • Respond to telephone, email and in-person enquiries, and arrange demonstrations in the showroom and, where required, at customers' homes
  • Maintain accurate customer, product and sales records using a bespoke CRM system, and process cash and card transactions
  • Assemble, check, charge and prepare products for display, demonstration and handover, including showing customers how scooters dismantle and lift into a vehicle
  • Load and unload equipment from company vans, and keep the showroom clean, organised and attractively presented
  • Work collaboratively with colleagues to meet the needs of customers and the wider business

Requirements for the Mobility Retail Advisor include:

  • Previous experience in retail, customer service, care, healthcare, equipment hire, automotive sales or a similar customer-facing advisory environment, although candidates from other backgrounds with the right values and transferable skills are also welcome
  • Excellent customer service and active-listening skills, with a patient, empathetic and respectful approach
  • Confidence discussing sensitive situations professionally
  • Strong attention to detail, good organisation and pride in maintaining high showroom standards
  • A practical approach and comfort with regular manual handling, as this is an active, hands-on role (training and safe handling equipment are provided)
  • A full UK driving licence and confidence driving a larger vehicle, as home demonstrations may involve a company van
  • Clear written and verbal communication, and confidence using basic computer systems

Benefits:

  • Salary of £26,000 - £28,000, depending on experience
  • Permanent, full-time hours, Tuesday to Saturday, 9:00am to 5:00pm
  • Company pension
  • Free on-site parking
  • Structured product training and support from experienced colleagues
  • A non-commission environment, with opportunities to progress towards a Product Specialist role

If you take pride in doing the job properly and want work that makes a genuine difference to people's lives, we would love to hear from you.

Note on Sponsorship: We regret to inform you that at this time, we are unable to offer sponsorship for work authorisation for this role. Therefore, candidates must possess valid authorisation to work in the UK without requiring visa sponsorship.
