About the firm
Our client is a successful regional law firm which has continued to evolve how it delivers for its clients and its people, providing high quality, varied work in a supportive and collaborative environment. The firm prides itself on its relationships with clients of all sizes, taking time to understand individual needs and preferences and providing a personalised service as a result.
With a strong presence across Devon, our client is an established and respected firm with ambition to continue growing whilst nurturing and developing its people. This is an opportunity to join a progressive and professional team who work together in purpose built modern offices across Devon.
About the role
Our client is seeking a Private Client Lawyer or Chartered Legal Executive with the skills, knowledge, and experience to support clients who lack capacity to make decisions about their health and welfare, or their property and finances. You will be working as part of the highly skilled and award-winning Care & Capacity team, based from their smart South Devon, North Devon, or Exeter offices. Our client is looking for people who know their way around the Mental Capacity Act and have a good understanding of community care law.
The work the team does is vitally important to protect the rights and freedoms of people who need additional help and support to make decisions affecting their daily lives. This includes making powers of attorney, Court of Protection applications, helping to obtain funding for social care and health care needs and acting as decision makers for those who cannot make their own decisions – as attorneys or deputies ourselves. They also provide support and advice to lay attorneys and deputies in those roles.
About you
As well as being able to demonstrate that you have the necessary experience and understanding of the law and regulations in this field, you will need to demonstrate an enthusiasm for the work and an ability to manage the client’s expectations and to win their loyalty across the whole firm. You will be self-motivated and should also have energy and ambition to progress within the private client department and within the firm. It’s important that you demonstrate empathy and good problem-solving skills in your day-to-day work.
You’ll be encouraged to actively engage in the marketing and practice development work of the private client team. Membership of SFE in relation to the Elderly Client/Court of Protection lawyer role is advantageous, but not essential. In return for your efforts, you will be joining a friendly close-knit and caring team of lawyers in a down to earth, professional, and successful firm.
Benefits
In addition to a competitive salary, you will benefit from five weeks holiday plus a day for your birthday, and additional leave given with more than two years’ service. Our client also offers a profit related bonus scheme, pension, life assurance, cash health plan, cycle to work and car scheme and a sabbatical programme connected to length of service. The South Devon office also offers an on-site gym!
