Ref: 3536

£45,594 pa | Hybrid Working with Flexibility | Newton Abbot

Cathedral Appointments is recruiting on behalf of a values-led, not-for-profit organisation in Newton Abbot for a People Business Partner.

This is a great time to join the organisation as its People function continues to evolve and develop. There is a genuine appetite for change, innovation and finding better ways of working, so this is an opportunity for an experienced HR professional to come in, bring their expertise and have a real influence on how People Services operates in the future.

The Role

Reporting to the Head of People, you'll provide trusted HR advice and guidance to managers across the organisation, combining strong technical HR knowledge with a practical and coaching-led approach.

A key part of the role will be working within a management-led HR model. You'll coach and support managers to take ownership of their people responsibilities, whilst providing the technical advice, guidance and constructive challenge they need.

You'll be someone who isn't afraid to ask, "why do we do it this way?" and look at whether there are better, more effective ways of working. With a real desire to modernise the People function, you'll have the opportunity to review processes, policies and systems, embrace technology and bring fresh ideas to the table.

This is a role where you'll have a good level of autonomy. You'll be trusted to take ownership of your work, build strong relationships with managers and make recommendations, whilst working closely with the wider People team.

You'll also line manage and develop a People Advisor, providing coaching, support and guidance to help them build their confidence and capability.

Responsibilities for the People Business Partner:

  • Partner with senior leaders to develop people plans aligned to organisational priorities and the wider people strategy.
  • Advise and coach managers through the full range of employee relations matters, including capability, absence, disciplinary, grievance, flexible working, restructures and TUPE.
  • Draft, review and implement HR policies, procedures and supporting toolkits that are legally compliant, inclusive and easy for managers to use.
  • Use workforce data and HR analytics to spot trends, build business cases and recommend measurable interventions.
  • Support change, wellbeing, engagement, inclusion and digital HR projects, working with colleagues across talent, OD and business intelligence.
  • Line manage and develop a People Services Co-ordinator, setting clear standards and supporting their growth.

Requirements for the People Business Partner include:

  • CIPD Level 5 qualified and working towards Level 7, or an equivalent blend of experience and education. Level 7 is desirable.
  • Substantial HR generalist experience at a comparable level, ideally gained in the public, housing, technical or not-for-profit sectors.
  • A strong track record of pragmatic employee relations advice and in-depth, current knowledge of UK employment law.
  • Confidence partnering with and influencing senior stakeholders, with the ability to challenge constructively.
  • Experience using HRIS and reporting tools to analyse people data and inform decisions, plus a practical understanding of embedding equality, diversity and inclusion.
  • Line management experience and a collaborative, outcomes-focused and evidence-based approach.

Benefits:

  • Salary of £45,594 pa.
  • Permanent, 37 hours per week with flexible working.
  • Hybrid working model.
  • Support for continuing professional development, including progression towards CIPD Level 7.
  • The chance to shape and influence a growing, ambitious people team within a supportive, inclusive culture.

If you are an experienced HR professional looking for a role where you can make a real difference to both people and performance, we would love to hear from you.
