With a community of partners who genuinely enjoy collaborating to deliver great results to their clients, the firm is known for its collegiate environment and healthy approach to work-life balance. As part of their continued success and vision for growth, the Construction team are seeking to recruit an Associate or Senior Associate to their Bristol team.

About the role

The Construction team in Bristol comprises 2 Partners, 2 Senior Associates, 2 Solicitors, a Trainee and a Paralegal. The team works with clients at every stage of the construction process in both the private and public sectors including property developers, funders, investors, contractors, and consultants. Day to day, you can expect to be drafting, negotiating and advising on a range of standard and bespoke forms of construction and engineering contracts (JCT, NEC, IChemE, IET, ACA). The team's instructions range from the provision of advice upon small discrete issues to being asked to be responsible for the entire contract matrix for a new commercial property development. As such, the work on offer is extremely varied and the clients are wide ranging.

Working as part of a high-performing national team, you will have a varied caseload of primarily contentious matters. Many of your clients operate within the education and public sector, and you will possess a keen interest in learning about their priorities, concerns and preferences over time as you work proactively with them. Whilst varied, you can expect the work to be fast-paced, complex and rewarding, where your expertise and ability to absorb information and prepare appropriate advice in a timely manner is essential. Day to day, you will be managing your own workload with relative independence and with the full support of junior resource in the team, to ensure work is being done at the right level. As an experienced lawyer, you will be perfectly placed to help trainees and junior fee earners to gain insights into contentious construction matters, enabling the growth of the team over time, and you'll also have a positive approach to networking and business development activities.

About You

As a positive and engaging lawyer, you'll have at least 2+ years' PQE (but possibly considerably more) with a mixed repertoire of contentious and non-contentious expertise and will be looking to take on a broad range of high-quality work across a variety of sectors including waste, infrastructure, higher education, health, and commercial property development.

Given that construction law involves supporting commercial property transactions and wider projects within the firm, you'll naturally find the role to be sociable and interactive. You'll have a love of team endeavour and enjoy working collaboratively with your colleagues across the offices, helping to provide our clients with the seamless "one stop shop" service which the firm are known for.

You will possess strong communication and rapport building skills, with the resilience to work under pressure by organising yourself effectively to meet deadlines as needed. Being tenacious, thorough, and attentive to detail whilst appreciating the 'bigger picture' for your clients, taking pride in the high standards of your work.
