My client is a UK Top 50 law firm with a national commercial team which brings together general commercial, digital, IP, energy and renewables and projects and procurement teams.  Representing an impressive range of FTSE 100 and FTSE 250 clients, public sector organisations, educational institutions and industry bodies on high-profile, business-critical projects and regulatory matters, the team is one of the largest and most successful of its type. It comprises sector specialists across a broad range of industries including advanced manufacturing, life sciences, aerospace and defence, energy and renewables, transport and logistics and international trade, amongst others.

Lawyers are located across the network of UK offices and includes nationally recognised leaders in their field. Working together with multidisciplinary teams, the team provides a blend of City presence and regional knowledge to foreign inward investors needing assistance in the UK.

About the role

The team advises on the full range of contractual arrangements associated with strategic projects and day-to-day business across a broad range of industries. There is a particular focus on supporting advanced manufacturing companies, ranging from the operators of major process plant through to highly specialised life sciences supply chain businesses. The team help with procurement and supply chain management, product development and routes to market, and are especially active in relation to energy transition and decarbonisation projects, and productivity improvement initiatives.

You can anticipate being involved as part of the team in all aspects of transactions and projects including advising on contract strategy, drafting and negotiation, some data protection (supported by our privacy specialists) and risk management. Joining a diverse group of professionals who believe in supporting one another while embracing creativity along the way, as we explore innovative ways to deliver our advice and assistance. You will work closely with clients' in-house legal teams and provide an in-house style of support for businesses who don't have their own internal lawyers. You will work alongside team members who have worked in industry for many years, meaning your day-to-day workload is like in-house, but you will act for a broad mix of clients, which keeps things fresh, and you can work in conjunction with a wide range of specialists covering other areas when support is needed.

You will help grow the workstream on multi-jurisdictional projects, from large scale industrial projects for multi-national corporations to supporting rapidly expanding scale-up businesses and SMEs. Your advice will underpin growth and help UK businesses to break into new markets, in particular the USA and Saudi Arabia. You might also be interested to explore the option to work on international secondments which this firm can offer.

The team is led by expert lawyers and is ambitious to continue to be at the heart of this evolving area of practice, presenting excellent development opportunities for its people. With a flexible approach to hybrid working, you could be based from one of their offices in Bristol, Southampton or Plymouth, amongst others across the UK.

About You

As an established Commercial Lawyer with a minimum of 3 years’ post qualification experience (but could be considerably more than this) in commercial contracts gained at a City or large UK based regional firm (or in-house), you have developed expertise in complex and high-profile transactions, including supply chain management, procurement/outsourcing, research and development and the supply of goods and services through a range of sales channels. The team has a particular focus on working with international clients so experience of import and export would be very helpful, but is not essential. Exposure to tech, IP and data protection would be advantageous, but regardless of your experience level you'll need excellent drafting and communication skills, have a genuine enthusiasm for the practice area and the aspiration to deliver a first-class service to the firm’s clients. You will be accustomed to working with large and complex organisations, providing commercially relevant, clear and timely advice in order to further their interests, giving consideration to the context of their business model and operational landscape.

Personally highly motivated and focused on working together with colleagues to deliver the best results for every client, you are a positive and encouraging team member who will support knowledge sharing and development across the team. This firm is known for its open and inclusive culture, with an environment which values wellbeing in every aspect of people’s lives, and encourages the fulfilment of professional ambitions.
