Our client is a respected organisation within the education and charitable sector, committed to delivering high-quality services that positively impact young people and their communities. With a supportive and down-to-earth culture, the finance team plays a vital role in ensuring the organisation’s continued stability and development. As the structure evolves, they are now seeking an Assistant Accountant to provide essential financial support and help strengthen processes across the charity.
The Role:
This newly created Assistant Accountant position provides an excellent opportunity to contribute to the organisation’s financial management and continuous improvement. Working closely with the Finance Manager, you will assist with financial reporting, monthly management accounts and the improvement of financial systems and processes. You will also play an active role in a forthcoming finance system change and support the ongoing Evolution Project. This role includes line management responsibility for the Finance and Payroll Officer, making it well suited to someone who brings a calm, organised and collaborative approach.
Responsibilities for the Assistant Accountant include:
- Support monthly management accounts, cashflow preparation, balance sheet reconciliations and financial reporting.
- Oversee payroll processes, providing day-to-day direction to the Finance and Payroll Officer.
- Assist with system improvements, including contributing to the selection and implementation of a new finance system.
- Maintain robust financial controls, including reconciliations, audit preparation, credit control and fee/income processes.
The ideal Assistant Accountant will have:
- Experience in a similar finance role with strong Excel skills and good working knowledge of accounting processes.
- Experience overseeing or supporting payroll activities.
- Ability to work accurately, meet deadlines and communicate effectively with stakeholders.
- A calm, organised and methodical approach, with the confidence to support colleagues and adapt to new systems.
