Cathedral Appointments has a fantastic opportunity for a Legal Assistant to join the Technical Claims team of a prestigious, national law firm in Exeter. The successful candidate will undertake defendant Personal Injury work and deal with a varied caseload of small and fast track RTA, Employer Liability and Public Liability cases and dealing with applications for pre-action disclosure under supervision. Clients include insurers, local authorities, and blue chip companies.

 

Responsibilities include: -

  • Running a caseload of small and fast track RTA, Employer Liability and Public Liability cases and dealing with applications for pre-action disclosure under supervision for a variety of clients to include insurers, local authorities, and blue chip companies
  • Managing deadlines to ensure compliance with Court Directions and client protocols
  • Undertaking witness interviews and managing witnesses
  • Liaising with experts over the telephone and in writing, under supervision
  • Arranging medical appointments
  • Preparing legal documents, with supervision, including court documents and witness evidence
  • Reviewing and summarising detailed documentary evidence, to include disclosure and various records
  • Organising conferences and Joint Settlement Meetings
  • Undertaking legal research
  • Conducting negotiations with opposing parties to actively progress claims towards settlement
  • Commitment to recording time promptly and meeting fee targets
  • Undertaking any other duties as required, commensurate with the level of the post

 

The ideal Legal Assistant will have: - 

  • Experience in a Legal Assistant/Paralegal role is preferred
  • Good written and verbal communication skills
  • Demonstrable ability to work in a team within a client focused environment
  • Good familiarity with Microsoft Office (including Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
  • Good IT skills with the ability to produce own correspondence and documentation, and competence with preparation of presentation and training material
  • Good organisational skills and be able to manage own time effectively
  • A proactive, professional and flexible approach to work
  • Able to adopt a common sense approach with attention to detail
