Cathedral Appointments is looking to recruit an experienced Insurance Solicitor to work for a highly specialist advisory business working in the field of risk analysis, insurance reliability and complex claims resolution. This client provides a range of services to corporate clients including risk analysis, contract analysis, and drafting, and resolution of large / complex claims. The ideal candidate will be a qualified Solicitor with a minimum of 5 years’ PQE and will be looking to progress their career within a unique and dynamic firm. This candidate will be required to work in the Exeter office but there will also be some home working and some requirements to work from the London office.


What will you be doing as an Insurance Solicitor?

  • Designing analytical work and project outlines
  • Managing projects and project teams, including in-house resources and e.g. external barrister/QC instructions, technical experts and forensic accounts as project requirements determine
  • Producing and quality-checking analytical output
  • Running client meetings and presenting findings
  • Leading negotiation meetings between clients and their insurers/brokers
  • Supporting the preparation of project proposals
  • Line managing, mentoring and developing a team of analysts
  • Supporting identification and closure of follow on work for clients
  • Taking an active role in the ongoing growth and development of the business


Skills/Qualifications of an Insurance Solicitor:

  • Qualified Solicitor with a minimum of 5 years PQE
  • Strong academics with a 1st class degree
  • A strong analytical background
  • Experience of working with clients across multiple industry sectors
  • Knowledge, interest and experience in the financial services sector and preferably some exposure to corporate risk issues and the commercial insurance industry (but a detailed background in insurance is not required)
  • Ability to build and apply depth of content knowledge in project execution and thought leadership
  • Ability to own a problem from formulation to conclusion, driving progression and agreement at each stage
  • Ability to oversee primary research and project analysis workstreams, define trends, draw conclusions and present recommendations
  • Capacity to build client intimacy by innovative thinking around their problems and build trusted advisor status
  • Desire to learn and to continuously develop your expertise
  • Willingness to go the extra mile for the team and the client
  • Excellent communication, influencing, negotiation and presentation skills
