Cathedral Appointments is looking for an experienced Financial & Professional Risk Solicitor to join a leading law firm based in Exeter at Associate level. This vacancy is based within the firm’s Financial & Professional Risks (FPR) team, which acts for insurers, brokers and other insurance sector clients. The team is ranked Tier 1 in the region and has a national profile for its defendant professional negligence practice. This is an excellent opportunity to become part of a successful and ambitious team which works on a range of professional indemnity, D&O, FI, and coverage matters. The successful candidate will also have opportunity to work with the FPR team’s insurance policy drafting unit and alongside its contentious and non-contentious financial services experts. You may also be involved in supporting and supervising work undertaken by trainees, paralegals and by members of our client’s dedicated outsourced professional indemnity claims handling team.

 

Responsibilities:

 

  • You will receive instructions from insurers, and you will advise and represent policyholders in contentious matters (in the County Court, High Court, TCC, commercial courts and under the Financial Ombudsman Service) particularly where the relevant dispute arises from activity in the legal, financial services, property, technology, media or business consultancy sectors
  • You will assist in the delivery of delegated authority claims handling schemes
  • You will deal with challenging areas of professional liability law and insurance law, including scope of duty, breach, causation, quantum and complex policy liability issues
  • You will report to insurer clients in compliance with a very exacting service and performance standards regime
  • You will assist and support the FPR’s dedicated policy drafting unit with reviews of policy products, drafting clauses, endorsements and exclusions
  • You will apply commercial and cost-effective claims solutions, including engaging in ADR, expert and QC determinations, arbitrations, adjudications and engaging in all forms of conventional without prejudice negotiations
  • You will contribute to the team’s marketing and business development efforts

 

Requirements:

 

  • You will be a qualified Solicitor with specific experience gained within Financial & Professional Risk
  • You will be ambitious and driven to be an outstanding professional liability and insurance coverage lawyer
  • You will have the ability to provide and communicate practical, commercial advice in a straightforward manner
  • You will have the ability to assimilate facts quickly and work towards tight timescales
  • You will have a passion for delivering excellent client service
  • You will have strong communication skills and be able to establish and maintain professional relationships with clients and colleagues
  • You will have a willingness to attend marketing and social events
