An excellent opportunity has arisen for a Communications Officer to join a leading employer in Torbay on a full-time, temporary basis, for approximately 9 weeks. The main purpose of the role is to provide an effective, high-quality and professional communications service to the organisation, which will include; developing and implementing innovative marketing campaigns; building strong relationships and collaborating with other departments, and analysing/reporting on communications activity. The successful candidate will have a minimum of two years’ experience fulfilling a similar role, a relevant professional qualification and a full, clean UK Driving Licence/access to own transportation.

Responsibilities:

  • Work under the general direction of the Head of Communications to develop and implement innovative marketing campaigns across multiple communication channels to ensure optimum visibility
  • Respond appropriately to media enquiries, prepare press releases and arrange interview opportunities
  • Identify positive activity in the organisation and the best way to share it with the wider public, partners and the media using all the publicity tools available
  • Identify emerging issues (internally, through the media and on social media platforms for example) and address them quickly in an appropriate and timely way
  • Achieve customer engagement by strategically exploiting all aspects of social media
  • Post to and monitor a range of social media accounts, simultaneously; using timelines and scheduled content to create a consistent stream of new content for audience interaction
  • Create dynamic written, graphic and video content that is suitable for various social media and other communication platforms
  • Develop clear briefs for corporate communications in conjunction with internal customers and partner organisations
  • Edit and agree content for publications and digital content in line with the organisation’s policies
  • Assist in the review of internal and external communication protocols, policies and guidance
  • Build strong relationships, develop partnerships and collaborate with other departments and partner organisations
  • Actively seek out examples of best practice in communications and keep up to date with the latest developments and trends in communications, public relations, marketing policy and practice and in the digital and social media landscape
  • Analyse, review and report on communications activity to maximise results and report on the success of existing projects, content and campaigns

Requirements:

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Excellent interpersonal skills
  • Able to work independently, with meticulous attention to detail
  • A journalistic and enquiring mind
  • The ability to understand complex information and effectively communicate this to a range of people across a range of communications channels
  • To work confidently and calmly in challenging situations
  • The ability to evaluate information, using statistical analysis and research methodology, to make appropriate decisions
  • Time management skills with the ability to prioritise, track time and meet deadlines
  • Able to appropriately challenge the conventional way of getting things done
  • The ability to use a variety of information technology, MS office packages and social media platforms
  • A thorough understanding of the media industry, news production and media regulation in the UK
  • Proven experience of working in a communications environment – devising and delivering communications plans and campaigns on time, within budget and evaluating outcomes
  • Minimum of two years’ experience fulfilling a similar role
  • Relevant degree/diploma, (such as marketing, communications, media studies, public relations, English) or equivalent professional qualification (such as CIM, CIPR)
  • Ability to travel efficiently around Torbay and the South West region in order to carry out duties
